Gina Fanelli from Bloomsburg University, PA, describes her first impressions of China
For me, nothing is better than new friends, good food, and an entirely different culture. I arrived in China about three weeks ago. I was petrified to enter a communist country, especially since I do not speak much Chinese. I arrived at Shanghai Pudong Airport and was greeted by 7 other Americans who would study along with me. We all clicked instantly, and were ready to spend the 4 best months of our lives together. We toured Shanghai for the first 3 days. The accommodations were awesome, along with the tours. I was extremely nervous to try the food, but I was pleasantly surprised by its deliciousness. Jeffrey, our tour guide, took us to various places in Shanghai but my favorite place was the silk factory. I was able to hold a silk worm and see how silk is made from scratch. It was so interesting for me to see the amount of work and effort that goes into a dress or scarf...

Campus Spotlight: São Paulo, Brazil
Beginning in Summer 2010, AIFS students will have the exciting opportunity to study business and economics, art, sociology, and Portuguese language at Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado in São Paulo, Brazil!
The 4th largest city in the world, Sau Paulo is known for its vibrant arts and entertainment scene, as well as its cultural offerings, including numerous world-class museums, theaters, and concert halls. Experience Brazilian culture first-hand by living with a Brazilian family and learning the beautiful Portuguese language.
AIFS students will take trips to the historical center of São Paulo, the Municipal Market, and major art museums, as well as participate in the Festa Junina and the Aula de Gastronomia Brasiliera. The program will also include day visits to Guarujá and São Roque, as well as an optional excursion to Rio de Janeiro.

AIFS Leadership in Beijing to Discuss New China Semester Program
Director of China Programs Colin Speakman welcomed Sir Cyril Taylor, Chairman of AIFS, and Dr Ian Newbould, President of Richmond, the American International University in London, to Beijing Language and Culture University in October to meet with the university leadership.

AIFS is pleased to offer a new semester program in Beijing next fall!
AIFS students will be able to study in Beijing starting Fall Semester 2010 on an exciting program of Mandarin study and courses in Chinese culture, history, economics, business and international relations.
